Judianna Makovsky’s preliminary discussions with J.K. Rowling about Albus Dumbledore revealed that he was a bit of a clotheshorse. “So we changed his clothes out as much as we could without it being a distraction,” says Makovsky. “We also wanted Dubledore’s clothes to look very grand.” Instead of using fabric-store material, which looked too manufactured, many feet of velvet were silk-screened and appliqued by hand to achieve a singular look. One of the gowns Richard Harris wore was completely appliqued in Celtic designs, which took eight weeks to apply.
